Important Reforms
The reforms set out in the 14-19 Education and Skills White paper (February 2005) are widely recognised as the most important change to the country's qualification system in a generation.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families aims to develop a system of education that
- prepares all young people for success in life
- makes learning post 14 a more engaging experience by giving a wider choice of learning opportunities
- enables schools to personalise learning to pupils' needs and aspirations
- increases participation in formal education at age 17 from 75% to over 90% over a 10-year period
